Tell me, World, and Tell, Nature

No spoilt, no pampered child am I,

Neither by nature nor the World;

Enough to keep my Body in breath

Is all I get in silver and gold.

How many pools have been my haunts,

Which but a Moorhen stirred,

To see my great Kingfisher twice-

That wild and lovely, life-sought Bird!

And many a Rainbow too has come

All silently in Heaven, and gone,

Between last blackberry-time and this-

While I saw only one!

Then tell me, World, and tell me, Nature-

Am I a spoilt and pampered creature?
